Riley Etheridge Jr. has a welcoming, warm voice with an appealing crackle to it, and it’s quite effective on Secrets, Hope & Waiting. He yearns and mourns, and his harmonies with Melissa Tong on the album are especially lovely.
“Its mellow lyrics are accentuated by its simple, gorgeous backing, acoustic strumming that occasionally makes way for starry electric guitar. It’s a gorgeous song, a strong case for the potency of minimal arrangements."
“All the trappings of a classic, a record that might have at one time emerged from the down home environs of Muscle Shoals or Stax Studios. They don’t make music as earthy as this anymore, but Etheridge has clearly tapped into a soul and spirit that’s transformative in a very singular way.”
